Senior Category Development Manager - Job ID 287

The role is responsible for the overall growth in the specific category with each identified account to meet product mix specified by the business. The role will work closely with the Category Specialists to ensure maximum growth.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities 
  • To work closely with our clients to ensure the supply of stock within agreed service levels at appropriate prices including ensuring minimum stock levels are met as specified by the business
  • Responsible for new Community Shop donations as per the agreed target shared with the wider business
  • To develop, review and present individual client account plans with the Head of category (top 25 minimum)
  • To provide minimum stock levels in each category as specified by the business to include grade A as directed by the Head of Category
  • To attend a minimum of 80 new external visits each year with recorded outcomes for each visit
  • To host a minimum of 20 internal visits per year with recorded outcomes for each visit
  • To work closely with client management in order to obtain new retail approvals
  • To support the Category Specialists in growing existing retail relationships
  • To be the specialist in the market place attending specific category and trade body events with relevant manufacturer and retailers
  • To work closely with the marketing team and develop material in line with client account plans to grow accounts for regular account contact (contact frequency to be agreed)
  • Develop in depth knowledge of key decision making drivers for top 25 accounts
  • Work closely with key stakeholders across the business
  • Build and Maintain productive working relationships with colleagues in Operations, Transport and Retail to deliver maximum value for the business and the best service for the client
  • To be actively involved in forecast and demand planning
  • To deputise for the Head of Category in appropriate meetings i.e. Trade Meetings
  • Work closely with and manage a team of category specialists to help drive business growth within the category

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 
  • Proven track record in a similar role including demonstrable category experience
  • Ability to build strong relationships and to adapt communication style to the relevant audience
  • Excellent persuasion and influencing skills coupled with strong negotiating skills
  • Highly numerate with good commercial knowledge
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload
  • Articulate and persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Confident presentation skills
Full time - 40 hours per week
