Company Shop
celebrates St Helens store's first birthday.

Company Shop, the UK’s largest redistributor of surplus food and household products, celebrated its St Helens store’s first birthday on 22 January. The first year of the St Helens store has seen over 5.5 million surplus food and household items redistributed, which may otherwise have gone to waste.
The St Helens store has welcomed over 15,000 members through its doors in its first year with KitKats, Baked Beans and Sour Cream and Onion Crisps among some of the first year’s many favourites.
Company Shop has approval to re-distribute own label products from all the major retailers. It works with hundreds of supply chain partners to ensure perfectly good products are saved from waste and are able to be used for the purpose they were originally intended.
Company Shop can take stock that may usually be viewed as waste for a number of reasons including short dated products, labelling errors, seasonal items, and those that are under/overweight.
Member customers can then enjoy these products at discounted prices from any of Company Shop’s six superstores.
Jane Marren, Company Shop Managing Director, comments:
“The success of our St Helens store so far shows the real value in organisations coming together to tackle the challenge of waste from food and household items.
By working with retailers, brands and manufacturers to purchase and redistribute surplus products, we are making a real difference to our industry, communities and the environment.”
Customers joined in the first anniversary celebrations alongside special guest Tommy Martyn, former professional rugby league player for St Helens. Attendees enjoyed refreshments and birthday cake as well as one-off promotional deals running on the day.
Tommy Martyn, former player for St Helens Rugby Team, comments:
“I was absolutely delighted to be invited to the St Helen’s store’s first birthday yesterday. At our club, we are all about giving something back to local businesses and the community.
“The Company Shop initiative saves good products from going to waste and really helps people with stretched budgets. This store alone has already achieved so much in one year and I was proud to be part of their special day.”
The St Helens Company Shop store is one of six national Company Shop superstores. Other stores are located in Wentworth, Corby, Middleton, Grimsby and Washington.
