Company Shop set to open in South Yardley

Company Shop is set to open its second store in the West Midlands, opening this time in South Yardley.

The store, which will operate from the soon-to-be transformed former Somerfield site on Coventry Road, will create over 40 new local jobs in the area and follows the success of the popular Company Shop Dudley which opened in March this year.

Alongside job creation and local regeneration, Company Shop South Yardley will provide thousands more Birmingham locals with access to high-quality, low-cost food and products which are on average 50% off the normal retail price. The unique offer will help to stretch hard-working family budgets across the region, whilst simultaneously tackling the challenge of surplus food and product waste.

All products sold within store will be in date and perfectly good to eat, use or wear, but are deemed “surplus” and may have otherwise gone to waste due to incorrect or wonky labelling, seasonal packaging or overstock - amongst many other reasons. The shelves will be stocked with products from major retailers, manufacturers and brands including Ocado, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Nestlé, Iceland and Tesco.

The store will operate on a membership model and will be open to those working in the NHS, social care, emergency services, FMCG supply chain, British Armed forces, provision services, and to those employed by charities. To reach families most in need across the region, it will also be open to those in receipt of means tested benefits, including Free School Meals (FSM).

Eligible members can already register for membership online.

Beki Pratt, Retail & People Director, said: “Following the popularity of our recently opened store in Dudley, we are really excited to be bringing our second Company Shop store to the West Midlands – this time in the south east of Birmingham in South Yardley – so that even more local people can benefit from our unique retail offer.

“The new store will see us regenerate a former retail site, create local jobs for local people and prevent good food and products from needlessly going to waste, all whilst helping to stretch family budgets further by providing members with some brilliant bargains from top name brands.

“We would really encourage anyone eligible for membership to sign up online as soon as they can, so they can be ready to shop in store as soon as our doors open”.
