Innovation at FDF Awards.

Company Shop Group, the UK’s leading redistributor of surplus food and household products, is celebrating being crowned winner of the prestigious Innovation Award at the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards 2019.  

The Group, which handled more than 70 million surplus items last year, scooped the award in recognition of its innovative business model and the pioneering and sustainable solutions it provides to the retail and manufacturing industry, to tackle the food waste challenge.  

With a heritage spanning five decades, Company Shop Group works closely with major retailers, manufacturers and brands to prevent good food and household products from needlessly going to waste. The business model works by purchasing surplus stock from the FMCG supply chain and redistributing it across its growing network of superstores, staff shops and its similarly award-winning social enterprise, Community Shop.  

By championing a profit with purpose model, Company Shop Group provides positive environmental and social benefits, while significantly boosting the industry’s economy. The Group returned £16.5m to the industry in 2018 alone.  

The award win follows a phenomenal year for the Group, which picked up its second Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development category in April, closely followed by being selected as the recipient for nearly £2 million of Government funding from Defra.    

The Group’s selection for the funding again recognised and praised Company Shop’s innovative approach, and has helped to fund and facilitate its trailblazing Harnessing Harder To Reach Surplus project.

With companies from across the supply chain entering every year, the FDF Awards are fast becoming the industry benchmark of excellence for innovation, competitiveness and talent.
