Company Shop Dudley Celebrates First Birthday

Company Shop, the UK’s leading redistribution supermarket, has celebrated the first birthday of its Dudley superstore, which has so far helped its members to collectively save over £3.8m.
Since the store opened on Birmingham New Road in March last year, it has also redistributed more than 1750 tonnes of surplus food and household products which otherwise may have needlessly gone to waste.
Colleague and members came together in-store to celebrate these achievements at a free fun day with cakes and surplus prizes. The Children’s Air Ambulance’s superhero mascot, Blade, also came along to pose for photographs with families.
All the products sold in Company Shop are in date and perfectly good to eat, use or wear, but were obtained from major retailers and manufacturers after being deemed surplus for reasons such as seasonal packaging or overstock. As a result, they’re sold for around 50% less than their normal retail price.
Company Shop operates on a membership basis. Membership is free and is open to employees and pension recipients of the NHS, emergency services, social care, FMCG supply chain, British Armed Forces, prison services, registered charities (including volunteers), as well as those in receipt of means-tested benefits.
“I’m humbled that in just 12 short months we’ve managed to make such a difference to so many families here in Dudley and beyond, and I want to say a big thank you to all the colleagues whose hard work have made this achievement possible.
“This fun day is our way of showing our gratitude to our members, who’ve helped us to save an unbelievable amount of perfectly good food and other household products from needlessly going to waste.” Company Shop Dudley Store Manager, Kevin Duffy
