Role Purpose
As the Head of Operations, you will work with the Retail and Operations Director to set the strategic direction and priorities for the operations department, which includes our packing operations, distribution centre and transport across frozen, ambient and chilled products.
As the head of the department, you will be responsible for managing, motivating and inspiring the team to deliver great results.

Accountability and Responsibilities
  • Accountable for delivery of operations in line with business requirements across ambient, chilled  and frozen packing operations, distribution and transport
  • Accountable for packing and processing of purchased volumes within the budgeted cost per unit
  • Responsibility for the performance and profitability of our operations function; including accountability for the operations P&L and forecasts
  • Maintain an effective balance of delivering ‘business as usual’ and strategic business projects
  • Effectively manage labour plans/budgets and productivity performance measures
  • Set KPIs and ensure these are delivered in line with the business plan
  • Develop and track key operations metrics and develop reporting to identify trends/issues/opportunities to drive improvements
  • Develop new ways of working to deal with new sources of supply
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to develop operational plans for incoming stock  
  • Drive efficiency through continuous improvement within our operation, to deliver lower costs and better service to our customers through people, innovation and capital strategic capital investment
  • Challenge the ‘status quo’ to ensure we are consistently innovating and improving the way we operate
  • Deliver operations capex plans on time; in budget and delivering the improvements/objectives agreed with maximum positive impact
  • Lead by example to ensure exceptional standards are achieved which support the business to maintain all accreditations, such as BRC 
  • Ensure the health and safety of our colleagues and customers
  • Coach and develop your team to allow them to be the best they can be and create a talent pipeline
  • Establish strong leadership and clear vision across your departments, role modelling the values of the Company Shop Group
  • Take an active interest in the external world to inform, shape and improve the direction of operations
  • Contribute to the wider businesses growth through sharing experience and ideas

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience of operating as a senior leader within an operations, distribution or manufacturing environment
  • Proven leader with the ability to inspire, motivate and win ‘hearts and minds’
  • The ability to combine strategic focus with practical, hands-on leadership and support to build credibility and trust
  • A self-starter, motivated to deliver the strategy for your department
  • Ability to manage multiple teams and projects, delivering exceptional service and strong financial results
  • Strong commercial and finance acumen
  • Personal energy, commitment and gravitas to drive and deliver 
  • An excellent communicator, be good at fostering relationships and influencing
  • Proven ability to build positive working relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Ability to operate strategically
  • Demonstrable experience of leading change initiatives
